The Dallas Mavericks have won their first playoff series in over a decade. They defeated the Utah Jazz 4-2 in the first round of the NBA playoffs. It's a huge moment for Luka Doncic and the Mavs, who will face the Phoenix Suns in the next round. Not since Dirk Nowitzki's amazing 2011 playoff run have the Mavs advanced in the postseason.
The Mavs moving on is surprising after Luka Doncic sustained a calf injury that knocked him out of the first three games of the series. Dallas stepped up without their superstar and took a 2-1 advantage before he came back. The Mavs closed the series out in six games behind brilliant performances from Doncic, Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie.
Dallas' last victory in an NBA playoffs series came when head coach Jason Kidd was still on the roster and throwing dimes to Nowitzki. While the former floor general leads the way from the sidelines, the GOAT of the Mavs franchise that led them to their last run of postseason glory is excited for the show to keep going.

After being eliminated early in his prior two playoff runs, Doncic said the Mavs deserved to get out of the first round. With the way they showed resiliency and strength in numbers, it's a hard claim to refute. They clamped down on defense and found a great rhythm on offense against the Jazz.
Doncic being healthy now is huge for the Mavs. If Brunson continues to shine, they could be the ones to upset the Suns in the NBA playoffs and advance to the Western Conference Finals.
