The next two months will be crucial for the 16 teams that will be in the playoffs, as it will give them the opportunity to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy this June. However, there are 14 teams in the league that will be using the next couple of months to think of strategies to be better next season.
One of the teams that will look to improve next season is the Dallas Mavericks. They already have a promising guard in Luka Doncic, the front-runner to win Rookie of the Year this season. They have also acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the New York Knicks.
With Doncic and Porzingis on board, there is no doubt that the Mavericks have a bright future ahead of them, and most people around the league believe the same thing. The Athletic recently conducted a poll involving front office executives, coaches, and scouts from around the league on who they thought among the non-playoff teams have the brightest future, and Dallas stood out at the top.
Article Continues BelowTo determine which non-playoff team is best positioned for eventual success, The Athletic polled a dozen league sources—executives, coaches and scouts—and asked them to rank the three teams outside of the playoffs (based on the current standings) with the brightest futures. Dallas: 32 points (5 first-place votes)

One Western Conference scout said he's looking forward to what Doncic and Porzingis can do for the Mavericks next season.
“They already have their franchise player in Luka Doncic. They have Kristaps Porzingis ready to come back next year. And they should have money to bring in someone in free agency. Plus Rick Carlisle is one of the brightest coaches in the league.”
An Eastern Conference assistant coach said that aside from Doncic, Jalen Brunson's development will also be integral for the Maverick's success.
“Luka is really good and they’ve proven that they are willing to do whatever it takes financially to win. The kid [Jalen] Brunson is a winner; players tend to get better in their development program.”
The Mavericks expect Doncic to make major strides and become a better player than what he is now next season. In addition, they are expected to have Porzingis at 100 percent before training camp. Their on-court chemistry has yet to be seen, but the prospect of them playing together is enough for people to believe that they will find success next for the foreseeable future.
