The Dallas Mavericks got a gem in Luka Doncic when he slid to them with the No.3 pick in the 2018 draft. Since then, he's been putting on a repetitive show with the Mavs that usually has the same grand finale game after game.
While he entered MVP conversation last season with some noteworthy names, there's a few executives around the league that feel as though the award may be his for the taking this season:
“If you put a gun to my head and you have to go win a playoff series, I'd say LeBron,” an Eastern Conference scout said according to ESPN. “But I'll tell you what: That motherf—er in Dallas is coming. … That dude is going to win multiple MVPs.”
It's worth noting that multiple, anonymous executives also voted that Doncic would also win the MVP award this year ahead of Nikola Jokic and Damian Lillard.
Article Continues BelowWhile Giannis Antetokounmpo won back-to-back MVPs in the last two seasons, many executives share the same sentiment that his chances of obtaining a third MVP title is highly unlikely.
“It's hard to see Giannis winning three in a row,” the Western Conference scout said also via ESPN. “And I think there's more of an opportunity for Luka to kind of put on an MVP show and do more on an individual basis.”
Doncic has nearly averaged a triple-double through his first two seasons in the league, and those chances only get better coming into his third season and becoming more comfortable in Dallas.
There's also a bit of hype surrounding the Mavs this season after coming off an impressive 2020 season. They made it to the seventh seed last season, and there's a high chance that they'll aim and land higher in the upcoming season.
