The Dallas Mavericks could do with a superstar these days. With Dirk Nowitzki’s career winding down and rookie Dennis Smith Jr. still some time away from reaching his true potential, they unsurprisingly find themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference because of their lack of star power.
One such superstar that they could target in the free-agent market in the offseason is New Orleans Pelicans big man DeMarcus Cousins. But in a recent appearance on the Washington Post’s “Posting Up” podcast, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon says he’s been told by people in the Mavs organization that they want no part of Boogie Cousins.

On one hand, it sort of makes sense for the Mavs to try and steer clear of Cousins. Boogie isn’t exactly the most obedient personality, and given how Mavs coach Rick Carlisle has basically cast aside two high-profile acquisitions in Rajon Rondo and Nerlens Noel, it’s scary to think what might happen with Cousins if they don't see eye-to-eye.
However, talents like Cousins don’t come around very often and despite potential conflict with Carlisle, it still would be a huge shock if the Mavs didn’t at least attempt to court Cousins if he hits free agency.
