Since moving over to the Dallas Mavericks in 2015, Wesley Matthews’ shooting performance has turned sour. While he averaged 13.5 points in 73 games for the Mavs last season, he shot the ball at just 39.3 percent with his 3-point accuracy failing to reach his career average of 38.3 percent, as he drained just 36.3 percent of his takes from beyond the arc.

This offseason, though, Matthews is hoping that doing yoga would do wonders to his shooting. In an interview with Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com, Matthews revealed that he’s taken to the Hindu practice this summer, as he looks to right the ship next season.

“I’m going to try to incorporate different training methods and stuff that I haven’t done. I try to do something different every offseason, so right now yoga is on the top of my list as far as just trying to keep my body fresh and give myself every advantage that I can.”

In two seasons for the Mavericks, Wesley Matthews has averaged 13.0 points per game on 39.0 percent shooting from the floor. That’s a bit off from his days in Portland Trail Blazers thread, when he put up 15.4 points per game on 43.8 percent field goal percentage.

The Mavericks are going to need the eight-year veteran Matthews show the way for the team’s young guns, particularly Dennis Smith Jr., and throwing up bricks isn’t a good way to lead by example.

Hopefully for Matthews, his yoga venture would be his key out of his shooting slump.
