Following the surprising trade that sent Dwight Howard to the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday, teams around the league are already thinking that the Atlanta Hawks might be opting to rebuild. That said, they may not try to re-sign Paul Millsap anymore, which leaves the door open for other franchises to vie for his services.

The Denver Nuggets have already expressed their desire to add the All-Star forward to their fold back in February, and now that Howard is shipped out, they have renewed their interest in signing him, together with two other teams, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

“There are three or four teams out there that are willing to give Paul Millsap a max-level contract and sources have already told me that the Hawks have already begun getting some feelers on Paul Millsap sign-and-trades. Teams like the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets are interested in Paul Millsap.”

Not only do they feel that they have a better chance of snagging the 32-year-old because of the trade, it also helps that the Hawks have made it known that they are not going to extend a max contract to him this summer.

On paper, the addition of Millsap to the Nuggets will give them a very competitive lineup, as he will play alongside some veterans and rising stars like Danilo Gallinari, Jamal Murray, and Nikola Jokic, just to name a few. Should the Mile High City team be successful in signing him, he may turn out to be the missing piece to their plans of becoming a perennial playoff contender in the seasons to come, and even emerge as a dark horse in the tough Western Conference.
