The Denver Nuggets have played so well through the first half of this season that their 29-13 overall record is currently the best mark in the Western Conference standings.

Furthermore, according to a report from Nick Kosmider of The Athletic, the Nuggets are now 7-1 against the teams with the second, third, fourth and fifth-best records in the Western Conference, including a 5-0 mark vs. seeds two through four (Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers).

Denver's latest victory came on Sunday, when they defeated the Trail Blazers inside the Pepsi Center, 116-113. Star center Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets in scoring, posting 40 points in the win.

“Jokic is a hell of a player,” Portland head coach Terry Stotts told ESPN after Sunday's game. “He is a difficult guy to guard. He scores inside, scores outside and he passes. We didn't do a very good job with him tonight, no matter who was on him.”

Jokic is one of the main reasons the Nuggets are where they are now. In his 42 appearances with the team, the Serbian-born center has racked up averages of 19.7 points on 50.6 percent shooting from the field (32.5 percent from beyond the arc), 10.2 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.4 steals in 31.4 minutes per outing.

The Nuggets are a solid team on the offensive end of the floor, to be sure. They're currently averaging 27.1 assists per game, which is the second-best mark in the NBA, just behind the Golden State Warriors. On the glass, Denver (47.0 rebounds per game) ranks sixth overall and second in offensive rebounding (12.5).

Though it's only the halfway point of the season, Denver seems to be a lock for this season's playoffs. Their next shot at claiming a victory comes on Tuesday, when they'll welcome the Golden State Warriors to town.
