Ahead of the Brooklyn Nets' season opener against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, star forward Kevin Durant shared a loving message to the fans of his former team.

Durant will face off with the Warriors for the first time since signing with the Nets in the summer of 2019. He noted that he still has a great relationship with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and the rest. He admitted that though he's donning a different jersey now, he'll forever appreciate his stint with The Bay.

“I'm very grateful for my time in the Bay Area. I'll always be a Warrior in my heart.”

In an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area, Durant also expounded on his relationship with his former teammates.

As Durant pointed out, it's not just Curry and Green that he has a great connection with. The likes of Andre Iguodala, JaVale McGee, Nick Young, and others have a special place in his heart. After all, his three-year stint with the Warriors resulted in two titles and two Finals MVPs.

The upcoming battle between the Nets and the Warriors is one of the hotly anticipated matchups this new NBA season. A fully healthy Curry and company are expected to return to contention. Though Klay Thompson will be out for the season, they did beef up their roster with the likes of Kelly Oubre and second overall pick James Wiseman.

The Nets, meanwhile, will finally see their duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the floor together, with new coach Steve Nash calling the shots.
