Stephen Curry made NBA history Tuesday night against the New York Knicks, as the Golden State Warriors superstar passed gained the solo lead atop the NBA's all-time 3-points list when he buried one from deep in the first quarter. His historic 2,974th triple came off an assist from Andrew Wiggins — not from Draymond Green, who was juuuust a little bitter that it wasn't him who dished out the dime.
Here are the comments made by Green, Curry, and Wiggins about that particular possession that gave Curry his 3-point crown, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic:
Article Continues Below-Draymond Green: “Wiggins never passes out of that play.”
-Steph Curry: “We run that play a lot. I think that's the first time.”
-Andrew Wiggins: “That play? It's a bucket first. But I saw Steph with a little bit of space and a chance to make history…”
It really would have been more fitting if Green was the one who found Curry for that 3-pointer, but Curry and the Warriors will take a bucket from deep anyway they can. The NBA now tracks secondary assists AKA hockey assists, so he'll just have to settle with that — and of course, with the Warriors' 105-96 road win in Manhattan.
Maybe Green can still get a momentous assist on Friday when the Warriors visit the Boston Celtics. Curry has a chance to become the first NBA player ever to hit at least 3,000 3-pointers, so Green can be on the lookout for an opportunity to get his teammate the ball.
