Thursday afternoon brought some terrible news, as Golden State Warriors superstar small forward Kevin Durant's adopted brother was shot and killed in Atlanta on Thursday during his birthday celebration.
Durant's mother, Wanda, took to twitter to announce the tragic news while offering her condolences to the rest of their extended family:
The Durant family extends our deepest condolences & prayers to Cliff’s mother, siblings, family & friends. Our family was an extension of his & we shared wonderful memories. His transition is an incredible loss for all of us who loved him, he will be missed dearly #CliffDixon RIP pic.twitter.com/QuIRt0hIIu

Durant was in Oklahoma City on Wednesday to attend Nick Collison's jersey retirement with the Thunder. As of this moment, there has been no reaction or statement from Durant himself.
The Warriors host the Indiana Pacers on Thursday. As of this writing, Durant is scheduled to play, although that could obviously change. It's unknown if the former MVP will address reporters pregame.

Everyone should keep Durant and his family in their prayers right now. KD must be going through a tough time, both mentally and emotionally. One can assume his Warriors teammates have been reaching out to him and asking him if he needs anything.
Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade took to twitter to send his condolences.
Prayers up for @KDTrey5 and his family. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

We sometimes tend to forget athletes are human beings as well. What Durant and his family are going through right now is something no one should have to suffer from.
