While Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors should be proud of the effort they showed throughout the season–battling injuries and COVID-19 protocols while dealing with chemistry issues–Bob Myers acknowledged they shouldn't be pleased with it.

After all, as the president of basketball operations said it, the truth is they fell short and disappointed the fan base that has been rooting for them to make the playoffs.

Myers admitted that there are some positives they can take away from the season, but the Warriors must remember their true mission every year and keep their eyes on the prize.

“How you lose sometimes builds a foundation to winning,” Myers said in an interview on Monday, per Brian Witt of NBC Sports. “Doesn't excuse not making the playoffs. Doesn't mean we're happy. But I do like what that locker room looked like in a loss, and what that last month or so looked like, and those last few games. Again, shouldn't please my owner, shouldn't please our fans, shouldn't please our players, shouldn't please me. But, like you said, some positives, and certainly dealing with the truth of not making the playoffs is something we can't escape.”

True enough, the Warriors had a rather disappointing conclusion to the 2020-21 campaign. After giving a good fight to the Los Angeles Lakers in the battle for the seventh seed in the play-in, expectations were high they would easily claim the eighth seed. Nonetheless, they faltered and loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

There is definitely no excuse for their poor performance and inability to close when it mattered most, but as Myers highlighted, the positives they got this season should do wonders for them in the years to come.

With Stephen Curry proving he is still very much in his prime, Klay Thompson set to return, and James Wiseman expected to be full healthy, the future certainly looks promising for the Warriors.
