An extremely rare occurrence took place during the Houston Rockets' loss to the Golden State Warriors on Christmas. James Harden went a full-game without receiving a single free throw attempt. In fact, that's only happened in five of his performances during his time with the Rockets, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

For a player like Harden that is so crafty at making plays with the basketball and using unique tactics to draw shooting fouls, it's almost bizarre for him to not attempt a single free throw. He is currently averaging 12.4 free-throw attempts this season and has averaged a double-figure total in this area in six consecutive seasons and during seven total seasons.

The topic of Harden's frequent trips to the free-throw line have been a common topic for fans and analysts in recent seasons. Some go as far as saying that they don't enjoy watching one of the game's elite scorers because of the tactics he uses to get to the charity stripe.

Regardless, it's clear that Harden has an advanced understanding of the rule book and has pushed the limits in a variety of areas. Whether it's enjoyable for some is another topic of discussion, but it's impressive that he is able to add to his game in the ways he has since entering the NBA.

The Rockets are back in action on Saturday when they host the Brooklyn Nets at the Toyota Center. When that game takes place, it's probably a safe bet that Harden will end his performance with considerably more free throws than he did on Christmas.
