The Indiana Pacers pulled off a blockbuster trade days before the 2022 NBA trade deadline, sending out All-Star big man Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings in a six-player deal that brought back Tyrese Haliburton as the centerpiece. The deal finally ended the Sabonis-Myles Turner pairing after years of speculation about the frontcourt duo getting broken up.
Turner has been involved in trade talks as well, but now with Sabonis out of the picture, what comes next? While Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix reports a swap involving Turner and Detroit Pistons star Jerami Grant has been discussed, he also says it's more likely the Pacers center now stays put.

This echoes what ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported in the immediate aftermath of Tuesday's deal. With Sabonis now gone, Indiana can see if Turner can blossom into the player he thinks he can be. The Pacers big man complained about his offensive role earlier in the season, clearly thinking he can do more. With Haliburton now in place as an excellent young guard to help get him better opportunities, we'll see if Turner is actually capable for being a more dangerous offensive option.
Indiana badly needed to retool its roster amid this disappointing season. Sabonis and Caris LeVert are now gone, and getting Haliburton in exchange for the former is a nice coup that nobody saw coming. We'll see what the Pacers have in store next as they move forward with a new core of players. It wouldn't be surprising to see a Malcolm Brogdon trade in the future when he becomes eligible for a deal.
As for Grant, the Pistons want a huge haul for him, and they could still wind up keeping him past the NBA trade deadline.
