Kristaps Porzingis appears to feel as confident as ever this year. Al Iannazzone from NewsDay reports the New York Knicks forward truly believes that this year he will participate in the All-Star game for the first time in his career.

As of Jan. 4's All-Star voting report, Porzingis has 359,459 votes. He only trails Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid in Eastern Conference frontcourt votes. The three most voted players get a starting spot. The votes are not only determined by fans, as NBA players and media have the same weight in player voting as the total fan voting does.

Porzingis is convinced that if he is not voted as a starter, the coaches choosing the reserves will give him the nod:

“I believe so,” Porzingis said following Friday’s shootaround. “I think with all the different things that I’ve seen this season from coaches, the double teams and all that, I do believe the coaches are paying a lot of attention to me. Hopefully in their eyes I deserve to get that spot.”

Despite acknowledging making the All-Star team is one of his individual goals, he also accepts these individual accolades come with team success. About making the All-Star team, Porzingis said:

“Very important. It’s a dream of mine to be an All-Star. Since I got to the NBA that’s something I want to achieve individually, but also realizing that’s not how you want to be remembered – only as a good individual player.

“All of that will come with winning. If we win we’re all going to look good and I’m sure I’m going to be an All-Star.”

Porzingis has a strong case to make the All-Star team this year, with averages of 23.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.2 blocks while shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from three in 32.3 minutes. Porzingis is also a very popular player amongst fans. After his rookie season, he had the fourth best-selling jersey in the league.
