The upcoming season will be a big one for Kristaps Porzingis. The budding young superstar is finally set to get the keys to the New York Knicks team now that Carmelo Anthony is gone.

Porzingis talked to ESPN’s Ian Begley about the prospect of being the team’s focal point offensively, which is something he has worked on and continues to work on.

“It's something that I wanted one day, to be like that. I just kept working towards it, kept getting better. And I'm going to keep … growing as a player and hopefully year by year we can grow as a team also,” he said after the team's open practice at MSG.

Porzingis also acknowledges the reality of his situation playing on a big stage like New York, but feels he has the right mentality to succeed.

“Obviously, when it's going great, then you can be the God, and then when it's going bad, they want to kill you. So there are going to be some tough moments, I'm sure about that. I've just got to be strong mentally here in New York and it will be fine.”

There will almost surely be some growing pains for Porzingis as he transitions into being the main man in New York. For one, the Knicks’ point guard situation is one of the worst in the league, which means that the offense might not run too smoothly and that he may he have to take matters into his own hands offensively.

Regardless, it's all a necessary part of the journey Porzingis must take in order to reach his true potential and become a legitimate NBA superstar.
