New Yorkers recently voted for their mayor earlier this month, and the results are in — sort of.
Several New York athletes received write-in votes for mayor, including Knicks superstar Kristaps Porzingis, per Ian Begley of ESPN.
Final voting tally from NYC Board of Elections: Aaron Judge (10), Kristaps Porzingis (9), Kristaps Porzinais (1), Kristops Porzingis (1), Derek Jeter (2), Joe Girardi (2), Eli Manning (1), Joe Torre (1), Colin Kaepernick (1), Darryl Strawberry (1), Lavar Ball (1), Pete Rose (1). https://t.co/tilyBV5GCm

Begley's tweet reveals that what many people already knew: Sports fans in New York are die-hards. The first five choices were all players from New York teams.
Article Continues BelowIn fact, Porzingod would have received more official votes of those writing him in as a candidate had spelled his name right. Aaron Judge may have led the way with 10 votes. But in reality, Porzingis received 11.
Some selections were interesting to say the least. It can be argued that Colin Kaepernick should have received more votes, simply because of the impact he's caused with his National Anthem Protests. He did win Citizen of the Year in GQ Magazine, after all.
Then there's the one vote for Lavar Ball. Really?
This whole thing begs another question: Would Porzingis even be a good mayor? He's only 22 years old, and there isn't really much indication that he's ever been — or will ever be — interested in a political career after he's done with basketball.
But he has taken to New York quite well since being drafted, and the people of New York have fully embraced him. So, who knows?
