Dwight Howard remains a member of the Brooklyn Nets, but it’s expected that the veteran center is going to be bought out by the team in a move that would make him a free agent. In such a scenario, Howard reportedly wants to join LeBron James by returning to one of his old stomping yards in the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype.
In addition to the Pelicans and Warriors, Dwight Howard is interested in returning to the Lakers, according to Sam Amick. “He’d like to play with LeBron [James],” Amick said on The HoopsHype Podcast. “That’s definitely on his radar.” It's unclear if the interest is mutual.
It was previously reported that Howard had interest in joining forces with the reigning and defending NBA champions, but his dreams of moving to Golden State are now out of the window following DeMarcus Cousins’ decision to next play for the Warriors.
And now, Howard appears to like the idea of donning Purple and Gold colors again.
Article Continues BelowLast month, Howard was flipped by the Charlotte Hornets to Brooklyn in exchange for Timofey Mozgov, a 2021 draft pick, and Hamidou Diallo.
The Lakers can soup up their lackluster frontcourt by adding Howard, who is still capable of putting up fantastic numbers. Last season, he averaged a double-double of 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds to go with 1.6 blocks per game. With Julius Randle off to New Orleans, the Lakers’ frontline currently projects to have only Ivica Zubac and JaVale McGee sharing the center chores.
Dwight Howard played for the Lakers back in the 2012-13 campaign, appearing in 76 games during which he averaged 17.1 points and 12.4 rebounds.
