The L.A. Clippers Patrick Beverley had a series of arguments on Twitter with ESPN’s Will Cain on Wednesday afternoon. Much of the debate stems from Beverley’s comments that Cain “knows nothing about basketball” after he said the Cleveland Cavs are not a lock to win the Eastern Conference.

Beverley had a revealing conversation with Cain as to what players think about LeBron James, specifically, that he and any team he’s on is a lock to make it to the NBA Finals.

Rather than argue about it on Twitter, Cain decided to invite Beverley for a one-on-one conversation on “The Will Cain Show.” He reminded Beverley that his take on the new-look Cavs was that this team was not a lock to win the East.

“Of course, I’m not playing this year. I’m able to be a fan this year,” Beverley replied to qualify his upcoming statement. He was ruled out for the season after arthroscopic surgery on his right knee back in November.

“Any basketball player will tell you, no matter what team,” Beverley adds. “and it’s hard for us to say it, as basketball players it’s hard for us to say it but as basketball players, we come to the truth. Any team LeBron James is on is a lock to come out of anywhere.”

Cain says some of the most controversial statements on air and in this case, he may be right in saying that Cleveland isn’t a lock to make it to the Finals just because James is playing for them. With a small sample size of just two games, this new Cavs team needs to prove itself over the course of several weeks before they are considered the best team in the East once again.

But it is interesting to note that Beverley’s thoughts about James’ ability to carry a team to the Finals is a foregone conclusion especially if many NBA players think that way as he implies.
