Apparently, LeBron James has had enough of the Los Angeles Lakers, and he has had enough of basketball in general.

In a move that rivals Michael Jordan taking a year off to play minor league baseball for the Chicago White Sox, James has reached an agreement to sign with the Cleveland Indians:

“I have decided that I have already accomplished everything that I set out to accomplish in my basketball career,” said LeBron James in a statement. “I now want to take my talents to a different sport: baseball. After bringing a championship to the Cleveland Cavaliers, I now hope to bring a World Series title to my hometown Indians.”

There has always been talk about how good James would be in other sports, namely football. How many times have we heard that LeBron would be a good NFL tight end?

But it seems like James actually prefers baseball.

When asked what position he would play, James had this to say:

“I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking somewhere in the outfield,” said the three-time NBA champion via text message. “But I'll play wherever the Indians need me.”

Cleveland shortstop Francisco Lindor is thrilled about adding James:

“He will probably need to do some work down in the minors first, but I think he can get to the majors very soon,” said Lindor. “I'm very excited to have him on the team.”

Indians manager Terry Francona didn't have much to say other than this:

“You probably didn't believe this from the start, but if some reason you did, April Fools.”

Happy April Fools' Day!
