The Los Angeles Lakers are only two wins away from capturing the much-coveted crown, and they’re also breaking records along the way.

They attempted 47 three-pointers in tonight’s Game 2 against the Miami Heat. According to ESPN Stats & Info, that's the most by any team in NBA Finals history. The Purple and Gold sank 16 of them for a 34.0% marksmanship.

The Lakers broke the previous record of 45 long range tries set by the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the 2017 NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. The Lakers also broke the Cavaliers’ record for most three-point attempts in a half with 27. In addition, they also set a new Lakers record for most three-point shots in any postseason game.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope hoisted the most from long distance with 11, but only made two of them. LeBron James and Danny Green both attempted eight, sinking three and one, respectively. The bench contributed well from rainbow territory with Markieff Morris, Kyle Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, and Alex Caruso combining for 9 of 19 three-pointers.

The Heat had 27 tries from deep, making 11 of them for a respectable 40.7%.

Curiously, it’s the Lakers who are now capitalizing on the three-point shot despite struggling for majority of the postseason. They connected on 15 of 38 attempts in Game 1. Prior to the series, many observers pointed out that outside shooting will be one of the main advantages of the Heat as they were second in the NBA in terms of accuracy during the regular season with 37.9%.
