The Los Angeles Lakers will have to go balls-to-the-wall with an offer too hard for the San Antonio Spurs to resist, if they hope to land their prized star, Kawhi Leonard.

Yet rumblings of the purple-and-gold having a “Godfather offer” has rival teams wondering if they have what it takes to compete with them in these Leonard sweepstakes, according to Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports.

The Boston Celtics still possess the best available assets to make a suitable offer for Leonard, but the Lakers will be operating in absolute desperation, with only over 36 hours to nail a commitment from The Klaw, before LeBron James makes a decision to opt in or out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Desperate is the key word of this conversation, as the Celtics don't have a need for Leonard, while the Lakers do. Because of that, the Lakers seem to be willing to make such a tantalizing offer to convince the Spurs to part ways with their estranged star forward.

The Celtics, led by their poker-faced president Danny Ainge, will operate with due caution, still wary of Leonard's bill of health after missing most of last season with a quad injury, as well as his commitment to remain with the team long-term after a deal is done.

The Lakers on the other hand, are expected to swing for the fences to make this deal happen in hopes to reel in the big fish.

These last few hours will determine just how badly the Lakers want James, and to what lengths they'd be willing to go to acquire Kawhi Leonard for him.
