The Los Angeles Lakers have struggled over the past several weeks since superstar big man Anthony Davis went down with a calf injury. With the defending champs set to open the second half of their season with a bout against the Indiana Pacers on Friday, team head coach Frank Vogel recently provided an update on AD's status.

According to Vogel, Davis won't be suiting up for Friday's tilt:

This isn't surprising considering how Davis was given a four-week timetable for his road to recovery when the injury was announced in mid-February. Based on this timeframe, the earliest the 28-year-old could return would be some time next week. L.A. has four games scheduled next week, and it is very much possible that Davis is able to return at the tail end of that game week.

Coach Vogel also went on to provide an update on AD's activity during practice:

It is clear that Davis is now nearing a return, but the Lakers are likely to take a very cautious approach in terms of handling the injury of their prized big man. The last thing they want is to rush AD back and run the risk of re-aggravating the injury.

The Lakers have struggled in the wake of Davis' injury. They have won just three games out of their last 10 entering the break. Needless to say, they will want to open the second half of the season with a win against the Pacers on Friday — even without Anthony Davis.
