Los Angeles Lakers supporters got excited when a recent video of superstar Anthony Davis shouting “Purple 'til the day I die!” made its rounds on the internet of late. For most, this has been the clearest indication yet of the All-Star big man's desire to sign an extension with the Purple & Gold this offseason.

The moment in question was captured by teammate JaVale McGee, who himself has been keeping a daily vlog about life inside the bubble. As it turns out, however, Anthony Davis' strong statement was caught out of context, as he was actually in the midst of a purple-vs.-white scrimmage game during a recent team practice session.

Davis, who currently has a player option on his deal for next season, has kept mum about his plans beyond this campaign, and it remains to be seen if he will indeed sign as an extension with LA. The 27-year-old was once again asked about his impending free agency, but as always, Davis kept things open-ended.

“I was focused on trying to see what the NBA is going to do about this season, and if we’re going to come back or not,” he said, via Kyle Goon of The Orange County Register. “But it hasn’t crossed my mind within this three-month, four-month break.”

Nonetheless, the general expectation is that Davis will remain in Hollywood for at least the immediate future. Many believe that he will opt-out of his current deal to be able to sign a one- or two-year deal with the Lakers, which will allow him to earn more money.

Needless to say, how this season plays out for the Lakers will have a significant effect on Davis' decision.
