Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis suffered a sprained thumb in the team's preseason game in China against the Brooklyn Nets, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

However, it appears that it's only a minor injury as initial exams revealed a Grade 1 sprain without any ligament damage, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Davis got the start at center, but on a blocked shot attempt in the first quarter, he picked up the injury to his thumb and did not return to the game.

The Lakers didn't exactly look great after Davis exited with the injury, as the Nets cruised to a 91-77 victory in the second of two meetings in China.

While the initial diagnosis is a Grade 1 sprain, the Lakers star will have tests to reveal further details once the team returns to Los Angeles, according to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.

Obviously, any sort of injury to Davis is going to cause some nervousness for Lakers fans, especially given the expectations for the team entering the 2019-20 NBA season.

With Davis and LeBron James leading the way, the franchise figures to get back on the right track and at least have an opportunity to compete for an NBA title after struggling in recent years.

Of course, having Davis on the court will be key to that type of success, so everyone will certainly be interested in finding out whether the thumb issue will keep him sidelined for the start of the season.

The Lakers will tip off the new season on Oct. 22 at Staples Center against the Los Angeles Clippers.
