The Los Angeles Lakers had one of their most disappointing seasons in years this 2018-19. Even after acquiring arguably the best player in the game, the team failed to reach the playoffs for a sixth straight year.
The drama has unfortunately followed the team into the offseason. After nearly signing Tyronn Lue as head coach, the sides abruptly split. Apparently, the Lue signing had Lebron James' support, but it wasn't enough to get the job done.
Sports analyst Colin Cowherd noted that the Lue fallout seems to be a continuation of a long line of “disses” at James. He pointed out several other perceived slights during his show, “The Herd”, on Monday.
"The Lakers are trolling LeBron. They've become obsessed with not giving him anything he wants… Kobe's agent, Phil Jackson, signing Lance Stephenson, dissing Ty Lue. You do get he's your No. 1 asset and best player." — @ColinCowherd pic.twitter.com/tTJCtyq87Z

The franchise obviously knows that James is their best player and current face of the team. There is no way they would purposefully alienate the superstar, especially as they try to rebuild the image of the Purple and Gold.
However, Cowherd is right that the front office has been extremely dysfunctional this year. Many of the one-year deals they handed out to aging veterans did not pan out; James grew unhappy with the lack of growth from the young players and ineffectiveness of the veterans and; President Magic Johnson abruptly resigned.
If the Lakers want any shot of coming back as contenders, there needs to be a major culture change. The team hopes that hiring Frank Vogel as head coach will be the first step in the right direction. We will see what offseason acquisitions they make in an attempt to wash the bad taste of last season away.
