Davis turned 27 years old today.
The Chicago native is officially entering his “basketball prime,” which should be quite terrifying to the rest of the league.
Davis has already asserted himself as one of the best two-way players in the NBA through his first seven-plus seasons, making seven consecutive All-Star teams while also being a fairly consistent finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.
“The Brow” is not being asked to do quite as much for a Lakers squad that still gets plenty of usage from James, but he has nonetheless has a tremendous impact on L.A.'s team defense.
Article Continues BelowDavis is averaging 2.4 blocks and 1.5 steals through his first 55 games, giving the Lakers the elite interior rim protector and playmaker they so desperately lacked in recent years.
Thanks to Davis—as well as equally brilliant performances from Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee—the Lakers rank third in opponents scoring average and defensive rating.
Not to be outdone on the offensive end of the floor, Davis leads the Lakers in scoring at 26.7 points per game, chipping in 3.1 assists for good measure.
Davis' future is one of the great unknowns for the Lakers as they charge towards the finish line. He will be a free agent this summer, and has not committed to re-signing with the Lakers.
But a championship might be enough to persuade Davis to remain in Hollywood, and his best days might lie just ahead.
