For the second consecutive year, the Los Angeles Lakers will celebrate the LGBTQ community with Pride Night.
According to the Lakers' press release (via Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints), the celebration will be held on October 16th when the Golden State Warriors are in town at the Staples Center.
Article Continues BelowFriends and prominent members of the LGBTQ community will be in attendance to celebrate the evening including fans from the Trevor Product and the LGBT Center of Los Angeles. The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles will perform the National Anthem and LAMBDA (Los Angeles Gay Basketball League) will also be in attendance.
During the game, the annual “Laces of Unity” Award will be presented by last year’s recipient Jason Collins, to Robbie Rogers. Rogers became the first openly gay man to compete in a top-tier North American professional sports league when he played his first match for the LA Galaxy in May 2013. The Laces of Unity Award recognizes individuals in the sports community who have significantly contributed to the LGBTQ community.
The Lakers also announced that fans in attendance during Pride Night will receive unity “LED bracelets.”
LA's season starts on October 22nd with their regular-season-opening showdown against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clips revitalized in the offseason, signing two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and trading for All-Star wing Paul George. That game will be nationally televised on TNT to kickstart the 2019-20 NBA season.
The Lakers' early season starts with a string of Staples Center appearances, with opening night technically being scheduled as an “away” match against the Clippers followed by three straight home games.
