Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma spoke up about LeBron James and how he should have more MVP awards in an interview with Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
“The NBA MVP is a very political award,” Kuzma remarked after the Lakers' victory against the Charlotte Hornets last Thursday. “Bron should have been the MVP at least eight, nine, 10 times. Everybody knows that.”
Kuzma's estimate is pretty close, as last season James finished second in MVP votes for the fourth time despite the Lakers winning a title. While players of LeBron's caliber usually have their eyes set on winning more championship rings, the MVP award has been taking up real estate on James' mind.
“It is something,” LeBron commented. “…I'm not going to sit here and say it doesn't mean anything to me… Being in the running, hearing my name with some of the best basketball players in the league this year again, it would mean a lot…it would mean an unbelievable thing for me, especially at this point in my career.”
With star big man Anthony Davis missing most of the season for the Lakers, James has had to increase his minutes and workload in order for the team to be near the top of the standings. Through his Herculean effort, the Lakers sit behind only an overachieving Utah Jazz squad in the Western Conference. In the 40 games, he has played this season, he has been averaging 25.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, eight assists, and 1.1 steals.

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is also a favorite to win the MVP, but his recent injury helps James to build up a lead in the MVP race.
