LeBron James had a very…big…celebration on Wednesday night and it might have gotten even bigger in his remembrance of the incident as the Los Angeles Lakers forward has now been fined $15,000 by the NBA for the “Obscene Gesture” according to Tomer Azarly of Clutch Points.
LeBron James has been fined $15,000 for this 'obscene gesture.'
James was also, 'warned for using profane language during media availability in response to league imposed discipline.' https://t.co/ZPoclUaJKC

As you can see in the video, LeBron is merely doing the old-school “Sam Cassell Balls” celebration, one where he pretends to be carrying huge…um…basketballs with both of his hands below his waist. Watch the video for yourself and you can be the judge of whether you think the celebration is “obscene” or not. For reference, here is Toronto Raptors star Fred Van Vleet and Cassell himself, both doing the same thing a while back.

Credit must also be given to Pedro Serrano in the movie “Major League Two.”

I understand that Sam Cassell made the celebration famous in the NBA and since then we’ve seen players like Carlos Boozer, Kobe Bryant, and obviously LeBron copy it. But don’t forget the iconic origins of the big balls dance. pic.twitter.com/mwRcG31NMg

Whoever gets the credit for the dance, maybe they should help LeBron with the fine…only kidding. That kind of money is probably found under the couch cushions at James' home. Also, considering LeBron is one of the biggest students of the NBA of all time, he surely knew this fine was coming and it is no shock to him.
LeBron will look to shake off the fine and get back to business after Thanksgiving as the Lakers take on the Kings on Friday followed by a Sunday matchup with the Detroit Pistons. It was the Pistons and their big man, Isaiah Stewart, who caused LeBron to miss a game this week with a suspension. Stewart recently had comments suggesting that what started the spat between the two was purposely initiated by James. Safe to say we will all be watching that one closely for any fireworks.
