Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was recently spotted wearing a soon-to-be-released variant of his signature kicks from Nike: the LeBron 16. Portions of the kicks are newly designed, but some of its technology and appearance was carried over from the 15.

The LeBron 16 features a new Battleknit pattern used across the upper part of the shoe and a Zoom Air unit across the bottom of the sole. Another detail that was included is LeBron's lion face logo, which is positioned on the heel of the new shoe. James' crown logo is sewn onto the tongue.

According to a report from Sole Collector, a release date for James' new shoe has not yet been set. However, Foot Locker's release calendar indicated that the first colorway — a “Black/University Red” color scheme — is scheduled to drop on Sep. 20. It seems James is wearing this particular design in the image above.

As most hoops fans know, James, now 33 years of age, signed a four-year, $154 million deal with the Lakers this offseason. The three-time champion is coming off one of the best seasons in his career. He played in all 82 regular-season games for the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 27.5 points on 54.2 percent shooting from the field (36.7 percent from beyond the arc), 9.1 assists, 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and just under one block (0.9) in 36.9 minutes per outing.

Last season, James had a league-high 2,251 total points scored and became the first player in NBA history to accumulate at least 30,000 career points, 8,000 rebounds and 8,000 assists. In addition, the 15-year NBA veteran currently holds the longest-ever double-digit scoring streak at 873 games.

LeBron now leads a Lakers team trying to return to the playoffs after nearly half a decade of down years.
