The Los Angeles Lakers are having a terrific season in spite of the four-game losing skid they are currently on. Due to the Purple and Gold's strong start to the season, former Laker Metta World Peace was asked about whether the current iteration of these Lakers are better than the one he was a part of.
The answer the retiree formerly known as Ron Artest gave TMZ Sports is something that will probably shock many Lakera fan.
Article Continues BelowMetta World Peace is enamored by the current Lakers squad — telling TMZ Sports they're a “bigger” sensation than his 2010 Championship team … at least right now.
“I think they're bigger than us to tell you the truth,” Metta said … “They're 24-6 at this point? They're bigger than what we were at this point in the season.”
It's definitely surprising to hear Artest say that the current iteration of the Lakers is better than the one he played with. After all, he played with one of the best scorers to ever lace them up in Kobe Bryant. Pau Gasol was also a fantastic forward that was one of the predecessors of the modern stretch big. Andrew Bynum was a solid presence down low. Derek Fisher was a terrific point guard while the rest of the role players were superb athletes like Lamar and Shannon Brown.
Of course, LeBron James and Anthony Davis are probably more akin to the Magic-Kareem of the Showtime Lakers than the Shaq-Kobe duo of the early 2000s. They also have capable role players surrounding them, but the losing streak they have isn't doing them many favors at the moment.
Maybe World Peace knows something we don't, but everyone won't accept his words until this iteration of the Lakers manage to win the Larry O'Brien Trophy in June.
