The Los Angeles Lakers officially announced the hiring of Darvin Ham Friday afternoon. He replaces Frank Vogel as the 28th head coach in franchise history. With big news like this, players often post something about welcoming the new hire to the team. Russell Westbrook's Instagram post was underwhelming at best.

Vox Media's Anthony F. Irwin tweeted a screenshot of Westbrook's less-than-excited repost.

Irwin joked that Westbrook reposted the Lakers' announcement pretending to be excited about the hire to avoid being traded, specifically to the Indiana Pacers. His interpretation of how the post came about is nothing but a comical assumption.

While it's unlikely that the team asked him to “pretend to be excited” about the Ham hire, things are tense between Russ and the Lakers. Since they entered the offseason, there have been countless rumors of a trade involving Westbrook. Maybe that's why he didn't add any emojis or GIFs in the repost.

The veteran guard just finished his first season with the Lakers. He was traded from the Washington Wizards in August of 2021 in exchange for a plethora of LA players.

According to the most recent rumor, it sounds like Westbrook will remain on the Lakers roster for the 2022-2023 season. Hopefully this offseason, he's working on his on-court game and his social media game.
