According to a report from Yahoo's Shams Charania, the Los Angeles Lakers can now be counted among the teams who have openly expressed interest to the San Antonio Spurs about acquiring forward Kawhi Leonard.

This came on the heels of a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski stating that the Lakers hadn't contact San Antonio about Leonard.

In recent days, there have been several reports indicating that Leonard wants to part ways with the Spurs organization. Loads of teams are said to have both eyes on the situation, looking for ways to acquire such a talented player.

Leonard, now 26 years of age, suffered a leg injury early last season. He worked hard towards rehabilitation and was cleared to play again by his own medical team. However, the Spurs' medical staff felt that it was best to hold him out, which created a rift.

It's safe to say that Leonard is one of the best players in the NBA. Over the course of his career in the league, the former San Diego State stand-out has racked up averages of 16.3 points on 49.5 percent shooting from the field (38.6 percent from beyond the arc), 6.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 steals in 30.4 minutes per.

As Charania reported, it is not yet known who (or what) the Lakers are willing to offer in a deal for Leonard. Whatever discussions the two teams have had thus far have not went well, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

The Lakers may have bolstered their chances in this sweepstakes for Leonard on Wednesday when they acquired a draft pick (No. 39 overall) from the Philadelphia 76ers.

Whether or not the Lake Show will indeed be able to land Leonard remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like they're interested. Be sure to keep your browsers locked on ClutchPoints for more updates on this topic as they become available.
