In the weeks heading into the 2017 NBA Draft later this month, there has been plenty of talk about where UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball will land in the lottery.
With the Los Angeles Lakers winning the second overall pick, much of the early speculation had been centered on Ball possibly going to his hometown team. However, various reports have since stemmed out with the notion that the Lakers may not necessarily be as high on the 19-year-old as previously thought.
Despite all of that, Keith Smith of RealGM is reporting that there is still a sense that Los Angeles will take Ball if he is available on the board at the No.2 overall spot.

Ball is one of the more intriguing prospects in this year's class because what he could potentially offer on the court. In his lone season at UCLA, he displayed a unique passing ability that saw him lead the nation with 7.6 assists per game while setting the school's single-season record with 274 assists.
Article Continues BelowWith the Lakers flopping back and forth on their internal thinking regarding Ball, much-needed clarity should be reached this week after he works out with the team individually on Wednesday. If he has a strong showing, there should be a stronger sense of what direction Los Angeles plans on heading with the second overall pick.
At this current juncture, there are a few other players in play such as Kentucky point guard De'Aaron Fox and Kansas forward Josh Jackson. The Lakers had attended a pre-draft workout on Saturday hosted by CAA Basketball and Catalyst Sports that featured Fox among the crop of players. There are also reports that the team plans on working him out next week.
There are clearly many wrinkles to this situation that stem much further than just drafting Ball as it could affect the long-term plans for their other young guards in D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson, who have both been involved in trade rumors in the last couple of weeks.
However things shake out later this month, there may be some major changes on the horizon for the Lakers.
