After setting a new franchise record for most points through the first six games of the season, the Orlando Magic need to score 108 more points against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night to set a new franchise mark for most points through seven games. The current seven-game scoring record was set by the Shaquille O’Neal-led Magic team that made it all the way to the 1995 NBA Finals.

There’s a decent chance this year's Magic go on to break that record. They are currently averaging 117.2 points per game, second in the league behind the Golden State Warriors, and have not scored below 113 points in any game thus far.

The Magic’s move to pick up the pace has been a major reason for their early offensive explosion. They’re currently playing the third-fastest pace in the entire league behind only the Brooklyn Nets and the Phoenix Suns.

They have been shooting at an incredibly high level while playing such a fast pace, too. Their top three scorers, Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon, and Nikola Vucevic, are all averaging over 20 points per game while shooting 54 percent or better from the field. Meanwhile, free-agent signing Jonathon Simmons is averaging 16 points on 52 percent shooting.

It seems unlikely the Magic can continue to score at such an efficient rate, but perhaps they can do so long enough to break the 23-year-old record held by O'Neal and co.
