Memphis Grizzlies rookie Jaren Jackson Jr. has been diagnosed with a quad injury that puts him out indefinitely. J.B. Bicketstaff, the team's head coach, gave out some more information regarding the severity of the 19-year-old's injury.

A bone bruise is one of the most common minor injuries in the NBA. It is something that most players can play through. However, Jaren Jackson Jr. is a player that is expected to be part of Grizzlies' long-term future, so protecting his health is going to be one of the team's primary concerns.

The former Michigan State standout is currently averaging 13.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game this season. He's also one of the Grizzlies' best 3-point shooters at 36 percent.

Jackson's injury could come as a positive for Memphis. Should the team continue to lose this season, they will most likely keep their pick in this June's draft. The Grizzlies will give the said pick to the Boston Celtics if it falls out of the top eight. They are currently 14th in the Western Conference with a 23-37 record.

The Grizzlies have made it clear that they are going to rebuild. They have already dealt former franchise player Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors. They are also expected to trade guard Mike Conley and Chandler Parsons this offseason.

Jackson, together with the team's top eight protected pick, could be a good start in building a team that can become a contender in the next few years.

Jackson is still likely to play this season despite his recent injury.
