Christmas Day games have long been part of the NBA’s schedule, and regularly features some of the league’s best teams and highly anticipated matchups. However, one team that won’t be playing on Christmas is the Memphis Grizzlies, and point guard Ja Morant is hoping that will change.

Ja Morant took to Twitter and openly wondered about what it feels like to play on Christmas, something his fellow sophomore Zion Williamson experienced when the New Orleans Pelicans faced the Miami Heat in the first game of the NBA’s Christmas Day schedule.

Aside from the Pelicans-Heat meeting, other games on the league’s schedule for the day are the Golden State Warriors against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Boston Celtics versus the Brooklyn Nets, the Los Angeles Lakers against Dallas Mavericks, and the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets in a rematch of the Conference Semifinals last playoffs.

The 21-year old guard is coming off a strong performance in the Grizzlies’ regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs. Morant finished with 44 points, nine assists, two rebounds, and two steals in the 131-119 loss to the Spurs, showing that he has picked up right where he left off last season, when he bagged the Rookie of the Year Award.

In Morant’s first season, he averaged 17.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 7.3 assists while shooting 47.7% from the field and 33.5% from beyond the arc. He helped Memphis finish the 2019-2020 season with a 34-39 record as they narrowly missed out on the playoffs.

If Ja Morant continues playing like he did in their season opener, and if the Grizzlies improve in his sophomore season, then he may actually find himself suiting up and playing this time next year.
