The Memphis Grizzlies received devastating news recently as their veteran point guard, Mike Conley, has been required to undergo season-ending surgery. He has not played in all but 12 games this season as he has been forced to remain on the sidelines with a heel injury.

However, he has apparently been dealing with the same injury for three years now, and wanted to know what his other options are apart from the surgery, which he revealed recently via Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal.

“I’ve had this for three years. All the way back three years ago one of the doctors said eventually you’ll need to have this heel shaved down,” Conley said. “I didn’t want to do it. I wanted to exhaust every option before going to that extent.

He then made it known that he is now left with no other choice but go under the knife, which he hopes is the key to finally get rid of all the troubles he’s had with his left heel.

“We literally did every, single thing the last three years to alleviate the pain. I did a decent job last year, but this year seemed to be too much for me. I didn’t want to have to continue with this cycle. Hopefully, this is the answer.”

Conley has been the steadying force for the Grizzlies and his absence has been felt in many ways by the team. They are now struggling to win games and only have a 18-31 record to show, only good for 13th place in the Western Conference. With what appears to be a lost season for them, it will be interesting to see what their front office personnel will plan to do about it and if they’ll be active before the trade deadline, should they decide to completely turn the franchise into rebuild mode.
