The Heat acquired Meyers Leonard from the Portland Trail Blazers in the summer of 2019 in the Hassan Whiteside trade. He appeared in 51 games during the 2019-20 regular season and averaged 6.1 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 50.9 percent from the field, 41.4 percent from beyond the arc and 64.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Leonard and Co. lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2020 NBA Finals in six games despite the heroic efforts of All-Star small forward Jimmy Butler, who went toe-to-toe with Lakers superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It appears Heat president Pat Riley isn't looking to make any big changes on the roster and wants to bring the team back.

With Butler, Goran Dragic and Bam Adebayo leading the way, the Heat should contend for a championship again in 2020-21. However, winning the Eastern Conference again will be tough since the Brooklyn Nets will be an elite team with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving leading the way.
Since entering the NBA with the Blazers, Leonard has compiled averages of 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds with Portland and the Heat while shooting 48.2 percent overall and 39.0 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
