The Miami Heat are trying to replicate their magic from last season and return to the NBA Finals. They are currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, just a half-game ahead of the Chicago Bulls who are on the outside looking in.
According to Tom Haberstroh of TrueHoop, the Heat are ramping up trade talks over the All-Star weekend. There are rumored to be looking to add a veteran guard, and some of the names being floated around include John Wall and Kyle Lowry.
Miami has eight games between now and the March 25 trade deadline, so it will be interesting to see if president Pat Riley will make any adjustments to his current roster. Riley has a reputation to make deals and for being one to win at all costs.
After a very uneven start that included a couple of games without key players due to health and safety protocols, the reigning Eastern Conference champions seem to be back on track, winners of seven of their last ten games.
Is Lowry and Wall on the Heat's radar?
While the Raptors are currently in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, there are reports that they are considering moving Lowry. Lowry is a proven two-way guard, who in the final year of his contract might reap the benefit of playing for a championship contender.
Since trading superstar James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets, the Rockets have lost thirteen straight games. Given the Rockets’ struggles this season, they very well could decide to package Wall for more picks and young players.
The problem for the Heat in trading for Lowry or Wall is that they don't want to give away any key players, so it will most likely cost them draft capital. On top of that, they already have a point-guard duo of Goran Dragic and Kendrick Nunn. Will the Heat be willing to move one or both of those players to bring in a more proven one to help their championship aspirations, only time will tell.
