Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards showed off his hops and strength by uncorking a tomahawk dunk against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

In the second quarter of the duel between the Wolves and the Pacers, Edwards easily blew by Malcolm Brogdon then proceeded to spike one over Doug McDermott.

The first overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft has been raising eyebrows so far. Miami Heat icon Dwyane Wade even believes that Edwards has the potential to surpass him — a proclamation that caught most fans by surprise.

Wade's comments were in response to Edward's earlier claims that the Heat icon is one of his basketball heroes growing up. The Timberwolves rookie even pattered his game after Wade, particularly on pick-and-roll plays. To recall, Wade is one of the most lethal guards during pick-and-roll situations. Even the late and great Kobe Bryant once asked for tips on how to handle pick-and-roll plays.

And it's not just Wade who's impressed by the 19-year-old Timberwolves guard. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, too, expressed his admiration after their game earlier this week.

“First of all, (he is) a great kid,” James told Spectrum SportsNet after the game. “Obviously, we know what he can do with the game of basketball. He showed that tonight, been showing throughout the course of his rookie season so far.”

It's not every day that the greats hand out compliments to rookies. Perhaps this simply means that Edwards is the next big thing.
