Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns was forced to exit Saturday's eventual overtime win against the Washington Wizards due to an apparent right knee injury. Towns was visibly upset on the bench, hobbling to the locker room just prior to overtime. While the superstar center will undergo more tests, head coach Ryan Saunders is choosing to be optimistic, noting that Towns was able to walk around the locker room.

While that certainly doesn't put Towns in the clear, it's a vastly better sign than not being able to walk around the locker room.

It seems safe to assume that Towns will not be taking the floor Sunday against the New York Knicks, which would give him his third absence of both the season and his career. The fourth-year center had appeared in every game up until earlier this year when he was sidelined for two contests due to the injuries he sustained in a career accident, which he claimed could have very easily been fatal.

Minnesota has been snakebitten by injuries throughout 2018-19, losing point guards Jeff Teague and Derrick Rose for extended periods, while forward Robert Covington, acquired from Philadelphia in the Jimmy Butler trade, has been on the sidelines since Dec. 31 and is without a timetable to return.

Before he exited Saturday's contest, Towns was dominating to the tune of 40 points and 16 rebounds, having now collected 40 or more points in three of his last five outings. It was arguably Towns' best performance of the season, one he hopes will not be his last.
