The Minnesota Timberwolves remain interested in acquiring All-Star point guard D'Angelo Russell from the Golden State Warriors despite what transpired this past summer, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
Russell had an agreement with the Warriors before getting on a helicopter with the Timberwolves contingent this past offseason. That made for “an awkward goodbye on the tarmac,” one source told Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
However, the Timberwolves are in need of another dynamic scorer next to Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. It just so happens that Towns and Russell are close friends off the court:

Despite all of that, the Wolves do remain interested in Russell, according to sources. And Russell seems to be realistic in understanding that he may not be long for the Warriors once Steph Curry and Klay Thompson return to full health. His shooting and playmaking could be a big help to get the Wolves offense moving and he is close friends with Towns as well.
The Timberwolves are 10-14 on the season and have lost six games in a row.
Russell is averaging 22.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 14 games with the Warriors. The lefty is shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 36.1 percent from beyond the arc and 73.9 percent from the free-throw line.
