The Minnesota Timberwolves paid homage to newly-acquired point guard D'Angelo Russell on Thursday afternoon, tweeting out a picture of Russell in a Timberwolves uniform with the caption “ICE IN HIS VEINS,” invoking the celebration Russell uses when he hits a big shot:

Minnesota had been pursuing Russell rather heavily in recent days, and they had initially hoped to rope the Golden State Warriors into the four-team, twelve-player deal that sent Robert Covington to the Houston Rockets and Clint Capela to the Atlanta Hawks.
While that effort was unsuccessful, Timberwolves general manager Gersson Rosas was able to renegotiate terms withe the Warriors to land his big fish.
Minnesota will send former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins to Golden State as part of the deal, which also includes a 2021 protected first-round pick (which becomes unprotected in 2022) and a 2022 second-round pick. The Warriors will also send big man Omari Spellman and shooting guard Jacob Evans to the Timberwolves so as to match salaries:
Golden State has agreed to trade D'Angelo Russell to Minnesota for a deal that includes Andrew Wiggins, a 2021 protected first-round pick and a 2022 second-round pick, league sources tell ESPN. Warriors will send Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman to Timberwolves too.

Russell is unlikely to help the Timberwolves revive their season. Minnesota are currently 10 1/2 games behind the Memphis Grizzles for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with just 32 games remaining in the season.

However, the move should go a long way towards appeasing franchise center Karl-Anthony Towns, who lobbied for Russell to sign with the Timberwolves as a free agent this past summer. Towns has been rather vocal about his displeasure as of late, and Rosas clearly had Towns in mind when orchestrating this deal.
In any case, Timberwolves fans have some exciting new things to look forward to, including (they hope) the sight of this celebration from Russell.
