This season we have seen two NBA legends retire with both Kobe Bryant and now Tim Duncan putting on their jerseys for the last time. Kevin Garnett could soon follow.
Although the 40-year-old Timberwolves player has another year on his current two-year, $16 million deal, he may decide to end his career before the contract is fulfilled. According to the Star Tribune, his contract allows him to join the team as a coach next season should he decide not to play.
New team president and head coach Tom Thibodeau is giving Garnett time to make the decision:
#Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau said he's waiting to hear from Kevin Garnett on his status for next season. "The great ones deserve time."

Although KG did not play many games last season with only 38 appearances, his leadership and mentoring of the young Timberwolves roster is vital to their future success. He could contribute that via a coaching position with Minnesota, but his floor presence as a player is undeniable.
Garnett represents a dying generation of NBA players; with Duncan's playing days behind him, Garnett is the only active player in the league drafted before 1998. Should he decide to call it quits as well, we will have seen three future Hall-of-Famers hang it up in the same season.
