No surprises here, folks: The Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics are currently the favorites to reach the final dance come June next year. There's no doubt that the Dubs will be the undisputed leader of the pack coming into the 2018-19 season. Nobody would have thought that they would be able to widen the talent gap more this offseason, but they did by acquiring another All-Star in DeMarcus Cousins.
Even so, the Celtics could close that gap soon. They split the season matchup last year, with both teams just plus-4 in margin during their respective wins, and the Celtics did that without Gordon Hayward.
Now, Hayward and Kyrie Irving will be returning to the team after recuperating from season-ending injuries. The team's young guns in Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Terry Rozier are coming off spectacular performances during their surprising deep playoff run. They are well-coached, and they have defensive aces all over the floor. With LeBron gone, Boston is primed for take-off in the Eastern Conference.
