Former NBA player Chris Bosh had his career end suddenly when it was revealed that he had potentially life-threating issues with blood clots. The Miami Heat, his most recent team, waived him in July last year.
While the medical issues have been frustrating for Bosh, who has not played basketball for nearly two full years, he has still not given up playing professional basketball again, per his appearance on the Bill Simmons Podcast, transcribed by HoopsHype.
Bill Simmons: There’s no chance you play again, right?
Chris Bosh: Nah, there’s a chance.
BS: There’s a chance? Really? What chain of events would have to happen?
CB: Well, I would talk to a team. Which, I’ve talked to guys. And their doctors—because like I said, there hasn’t been a plan. But if a team creates that plan, we can go from there. But we’ve explored those things and it’s a lot of work. We don’t have the resources to do the research and everything. But if it’s important enough to a team to devise that plan and talk on the phone to doctors, insurance and all those things, then yeah, we can talk about it.
Chris Bosh is still in his early 30s and probably feels he has plenty of basketball left. And that's probably true. But doctors have reportedly said in the past that it would be a danger to his life if he were to keep playing professional basketball.
Article Continues BelowIt's clear that Bosh wants to play and is looking for avenues in which to do so. What happened to him is more than unfortunate; it's unfair.
But there has to come a point where the risk outweighs the satisfaction of ending something you started in the exact way you want to end it. Bosh is a smart person, and he knows the risks involved.
It's possible he wants to just give it one more chance and if that doesn't work, he'll finally come to terms with what happened. The overall hope, though, is that whatever happens, he stays healthy and is able to be happy.
