Kendrick Perkins is not sold on Kyrie Irving's explanation regarding comments he made Thursday on Kevin Durant's podcast.
Irving said he has always felt like the best offensive option at the end of games, noting Durant's late-game presence should take some pressure off him when the duo begin their Brooklyn Nets tenure next year.
Fans interpreted these comments as a possible subliminal shot at LeBron James, who played with Irving for three seasons during his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Irving attempted to clear the air on Instagram, saying the media was trying to twist his comments to pit him against his former teammate.
"Why must it always be brother against brother? Why? If I’m addressing anyone, I'll say their name. Don't listen to the false narratives.”

But Perkins disputed Kyrie's retort, claiming on Twitter and on ESPN's “Get Up” that Irving is “jealous” of LeBron and the success he has had throughout his career.

Kyrie has a tendency to be a lightning rod for controversy when he speaks. Durant is similar in his unabashed approach to the media and speaking his mind.
Regardless of the implicit meaning, the comments are rather confounding.
Irving has unquestionably cemented his status as one of the big shot-makers in the NBA. His game-winner against the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals will go down as one of the most memorable moments in league history.
At the same time, one of the reasons Kyrie demanded a trade from the Cavs was the opportunity to be the No. 1 option on another team, something he never had with LeBron as the focal point in Cleveland.
In any case, James is hoping to win his fourth championship, while Irving and Durant figure to turn their focus to next season.
