Hybrid guard/forward Lance Stephenson could make his return to the hardwood faster than expected.

The 26-year-old was waived by the New Orleans Pelicans in November after signing with the team at the end of the offseason and could make his recovery from groin surgery as early as mid-January, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.

Stephenson posted a quick message on New Year's Eve hinting at his return.

Back when he was initially waived, Pelicans GM Dell Demps was open to bringing back the all-around swingman after his recovery. Stephenson averaged 9.7 points, 4.8 assists, and three rebounds in 27 minutes per outing through six games for the Pelicans.
