The New Orleans Pelicans suffered a huge loss this weekend with the season-ending Achilles injury to center DeMarcus CousinsAnthony Davis' counterpart in what's arguably the league's most menacing frontline. While his absence undoubtedly creates a huge void within the Pelicans, it also leaves questions as to how much the injury affects Cousins' prospects in free agency.

One player who has become accustomed to dealing with his fair share of injuries is big man Anthony Davis. According to Pelicans writer Jim Eichenhofer, Davis acknowledged that bouncing back from such a devastating injury raises concern about how it effects Cousins' market value.

“It’s tough, not knowing what’s going to happen, how big your market is going to be, are you going to be the same (player) coming back?” Wry smile: “But I think he’s done enough in his career to show that he’s very solid”

It goes without saying that Davis knows a thing or two about coming back strong from injury. Needless to say, it is encouraging to see him still hold out major hope for his star teammate.

Despite being on the same team as Davis, Cousins has perhaps been the Pelicans' best all-around player this season. Cousins had been playing the best basketball of his career, averaging 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while adding 1.6 blocks and 1.6 steals per game as well.

That said, there is little doubt that Cousins is still going to be one of the biggest names on the market in free agency. If there is one positive to the injury for the star big man, it is that the Pelicans may still try to take him up on that max contract offer.
